Advance Reading (a 6-minute read): The Evolution of SPT

Also in advance, please consider the following questions: What defines SPT? How do you distinguish it from other practices? If you take another practice and you incorporate a therapist, does that make it SPT? Why or why not?

SPT Professional Context. Andrew Heartman

  • The origins of SPT and how it has changed since originally conceived.
  • How we have modified the traditional Sensate Focus protocol to fit into the Wheel of Consent Relational Framework
  • What defines SPT?
  • Recommended Terminology
  • Importance of the Triadic Model
  • Dual Attunement

NCSF Media Training. Susan Wright, National Coalition for Sexual Freedom

Are you ready if you have to speak to the media in this current political climate? You need preparation and planning to be an effective spokesperson for yourself and your message. We’ll give you Media Tips on dealing with reporters, and go through some sample soundbites that you can adapt for your own use. We’ll also talk about strategy and tactics based on some examples and gotcha questions. Come get your questions answered!

As a result of attending the workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Distinguish at least three current trends in legal and legislative efforts that are critical to surrogate partners.

  • Create talking points to convey your message in a way that won’t be taken out of context.

  • Understand how to communicate with journalists so that you control the narrative.

About the Presenters

This session will go from 3:00 to 5:40 Pacific time, which includes 2.5 hours and allows for a 10-minute break somewhere in the middle, at a time that is appropriate for the material. Then the guest speakers will leave us, and there will be an additional half hour, from 5:40 to 6:10, which will be a facilitated discussion and integration of the prior content. This last half hour is optional, so if you’ve had enough at that point you are welcome to skip it. If you choose to stay, you will be invited to consider questions, either all together or in breakout groups, like “What most impacted you from today’s session?” “How do you think you can incorporate this in your work as a surrogate partner?”
