9/11/25 Mitigating Risk, Understanding Harm

Safer Sex: STIs and Protection. Katherine Yeagel

As hands-on sexual practitioners, our clients look to us as experts on sex and sexual health-- but most sexual healing trainings offer surprisingly little sex education knowledge. And most reliable sexual health information websites (like the CDC) talk about risks exclusively in terms of worst case scenario. After being asked by clients too many sexual health questions I didn't know the answers to and feeling frustrated with the lack of easily accessible harm reduction information, I decided to become a certified sex educator. I condensed what I learned from the San Francisco Sex Information training and my own research into this presentation, designed to equip clients with the essential information they need to make the healthiest choices for themselves.

Breaking the Cycle: Exploring Pathways to Understanding Sexual Harm. Aredvi Azad

This panel will explore the deep roots of sexual and relational harm, tracing the interpersonal, cultural, and institutional patterns that uphold cycles of violence. Together, we will unpack frameworks that move beyond the victim/perpetrator binary, centering community accountability, collective care, and transformative approaches to healing. With particular attention to those who have caused harm, we will examine liberatory, non-carceral strategies for repair, reconnection, and disrupting legacies of violence—grounded in relational, abolitionist, and trauma-informed values.

About the Presenters

This session will go from 3:00 to 5:40 Pacific time, which includes 2.5 hours and allows for a 10-minute break somewhere in the middle, at a time that is appropriate for the material. Then the guest speakers will leave us, and there will be an additional half hour, from 5:40 to 6:10, which will be a facilitated discussion and integration of the prior content. This last half hour is optional, so if you’ve had enough at that point you are welcome to skip it. If you choose to stay, you will be invited to consider questions, either all together or in breakout groups, like “What most impacted you from today’s session?” “How do you think you can incorporate this in your work as a surrogate partner?”
